During a working session with officials from the financial and monetary sector, organized last week, the Finance and Budgets Committee raised the issue of increasing the tourist allowance for Algerian travellers. Indeed, deputies agree that the amount of this allowance is insufficient for the Algerian tourist who wishes to spend holidays abroad.

Introduced in 1997, following an instruction from the Bank of Algeria, relating to the right of exchange for trips abroad, the tourist allowance amounted to 15,000 Algerian dinars for an adult and 7,500 Dzd for a child, has not changed since. Today, everyone considers that this amount is insufficient for the Algerian traveler.

MPs call for increased tourist allowance

According to the Arabic speaker Echorouk, during the debates on the new law on currency and credits, deputies raised the issue of increasing the tourist allowance. The latter recall that the amount of 15,000 Algerian dinars does not even cover transport from the airport and hotel costs for Algerian travelers.

These MEPs consider that it is high time to review the amount of this tourist allowance. And this, in accordance with new data, relating to the economic environment in Algeria and inflation at the global level.

According to the same source, the president of the Association of Banks and Financial Institutions took note of the request of the deputies of the commission. In this wake, Salah Eddine Taleb, Governor of the Bank of Algeria, will be questioned next Tuesday about the tourist allowance, during his meeting with the Finance and Budget Committee.
