A pedestrian fell under a freight train in Bottrop on Friday night. The fire brigade went out and got the injured person off the train tracks.

As the Bottrop fire department announced, the emergency services learned at 2:08 a.m. that a man had collided with a freight train. On the railway line at Am Kämpchen, the firefighters first scaled the embankment, then ran the remaining 500 meters to the injured person under the train.

According to the fire department, the injured person was not in a life-threatening situation. The rescue workers treated him on site and managed to access the site of the adjacent coking plant for safe transport. He came to the hospital. Firefighters completed the operation around 4 a.m.

The professional fire brigade, the federal police and an emergency manager from Deutsche Bahn took part in the operation. According to initial findings, the man used the train tracks as a footpath to go home. The federal police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident. (red)
