On January 10, it arrives seventh season of Farmen kendis with twelve new and familiar faces. One of these is celebrity chef Trond Moi (53).

It is hardly a secret that life on the Farm takes its toll – both mentally and physically. The participants will live for six weeks as they did in 1923. This involves everything from workload, living conditions and access to food.

For a renowned chef like Moi, it is not just about having limited access to raw materials. Moi is one of two founders behind the well-known restaurant chain “Bølgen og Moi”. In 2020, however, he withdrew, and now runs his own restaurants.

For the 53-year-old, it quickly became clear that his cooking skills were a very positive thing to bring to the Farmen farm.

Was surprised

It is not as tempting for everyone to go from a simpler everyday life in 2023 to hard work in 1923. But Moi was looking forward to it.

– Going back in time was perhaps one of the things I was looking forward to the most. To experience having to fire wood and cook in the old-fashioned way, he tells TV 2.

He admits that it was a lot of work in practice, but that something good still came out of it.

– It was a lot of work when you had to get started. You had to fetch and pump up water and chop wood of different sizes to cook. It was a lot of work, but also a lot of fun.

At the Farm, he enjoyed being in the kitchen and getting the most out of the few resources.

– I was pleasantly surprised. There was a large and nice kitchen with a workbench and plenty of space. It was also social with a table you could sit around.

Food as strategy

Moi made some preparations ahead of the participation. He focused on how to make milk a greater resource.

– I prepared to make yoghurt, sour cream, butter and other things from milk. There is a lot you can make out of it, says the chef.

In addition, he tried to be as creative as possible with the food. In the midst of hard work and limited access to food, it’s not exactly stupid to have a chef on the team.

– That was my entire strategy. To become as popular as possible through the food. I was excited about how I would do, but I wanted to cook the best possible food and see if they would keep me for that, he can reveal.

Learning experience

Moi describes the experience as educational. He had to think more creatively and sustainably to get things going.

– I spent a lot of time thinking about the maximum effect of the minimum, he says.

There is not a large supply of foodstuffs such as oil and butter on the farm. They could therefore not waste anything or throw away food unnecessarily. In addition to missing his family and good wine, he just missed having things to cook good food with.

– Like enough oil, butter, onions and the spices that help lift the food. It was limited to that, says Moi.

Watch the premiere of The farm celebrity 10 January on TV 2 Direkte and TV 2 Play.
