Trump is indicted in Georgia for meddling in the 2020 election

The Fulton County grand jury’s indictment against Trump follows a two-year investigation sparked by a January 2021 phone call in which the then-president suggested the Georgia secretary of state could help him “find 11,780 votes.” needed to reverse his narrow loss to Joe Biden.

Other suspects are former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows; Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani; and Jeffrey Clark, a Trump administration Justice Department official who spearheaded his plan to reverse his election loss in Georgia.

Trump was indicted by a federal grand jury in early August for conspiring to undermine the 2020 vote and prevent a peaceful transfer of power through a series of lies and illegal actions taken after the general election, which led to violent riots that his supporters held at the federal Capitol on January 6, 2021. He pleaded not guilty in that case.

As the indictments mount, Trump — the frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination — often refers to the fact that he is the only US president to have faced criminal charges. He continues to campaign and fundraise around these issues, presenting himself as a victim of Democratic prosecutors who are after him.
