Washington, Apr 21 (EFE).- Former United States President Donald Trump (2017-2021) assured this Monday that he is “shocked” and “surprised” by the departure of presenter Tucker Carlson, one of his greatest defenders, from the network television Fox News.

“I felt shocked. I’m surprised. He is a very good person, a very good man, and he was very talented and had very good audience levels, ”said the former president during an interview with Newsmax on Monday.

Fox announced Carlson’s departure today in a brief statement in which he further assured that the host of the “Fox News Tonight” program will not return to the set.

In fact, the note ensures that the last program presented by Carlson, one of the best-known faces of the conservative chain, was the one broadcast last Friday night.

The announcement came less than a week after Fox agreed to pay $787.5 million in a settlement with Dominion Voting Systems to avoid a last-minute defamation lawsuit in which the voting machine company accused the company of of spreading falsehoods about alleged fraud in the 2020 US election.

Dominion’s main asset in the trial, which did not take place, were numerous internal messages from journalists and Fox executives making it clear that they did not believe the allegations of voter fraud that their own company was feeding to viewers, and encouraged by Trump himself.

The former president also weighed in on the case during an interview with Newsmax, saying he was surprised Fox agreed to a settlement as the case was “easy to win.”
