According to a new report made public today, Saturday February 11, 2023, by the General Directorate of Civil Protection (DGPC), Civil Protection elements dispatched by Algeria to Turkey and Syria were able to rescue 13 living people. and removed 108 bodies from the rubble, as part of their solidarity mission in these two countries hit by a violent earthquake on Monday, February 6.

According to the same press release, in Turkey, the interventions of the Civil Protection detachments have made it possible to remove, since last Monday, a total of 86 victims, namely 12 living people and 74 bodies from the rubble. While in Syria, the balance sheet of Civil Protection reports 35 victims, including one person rescued alive and 34 lifeless bodies removed from the rubble.

Moreover, according to the figures of the international organization in charge of listing the victims in Turkey and Syria, Algeria points to the first place of the established ranking, as far as rescue operations are concerned. Indeed, the Algerian civil protection shows the most important record of rescuers from different countries who offered humanitarian aid to the victims of the earthquakes that affected the two countries.

It should be recalled that these teams were dispatched following a decision by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune. Indeed, Algeria dispatched a detachment of 89 intervention and major risk management agents, divided into brigades, including the search and rescue-clearance brigade, the canine brigade and a specialized medical team. A second detachment of 86 Civil Protection elements also joined Syria.

Five days after the violent earthquakes that wreaked havoc in southeastern Turkey and northern Syria, rescuers are still in a race against time to find survivors. The death toll from the disaster exceeded 24,000 today, Saturday 11 February.

20,937 people died in Turkey as a result of the earthquakes, according to the National Disaster and Emergency Management Authority. The death toll now exceeds 24,437 in southern Turkey and northwestern Syria, as relief efforts continue to try to find survivors in the rubble.
