Twitter, as such, no longer exists. so says Bloomberg after announcing this Tuesday, April 11, that the social media company merged with a newly created private company called “X Corp.”

The news agency quotes a document filed April 4 in a California court in connection with a lawsuit filed in 2022 against the company and its former CEO, Jack Dorsey.

It is not at all clear what this means for Twitter, in the context of the great changes that the magnate Elon Musk is carrying out in the organization that he acquired at the end of October 2022 for 44 billion dollars.

This morning, In line with the news published by Bloomberg, Musk tweeted a single letter in his account: “X”.

Last year, Musk had said that buying Twitter would be an “accelerator” of his project to create “X”, a venture that he described as an “everything app”.

X Corp, the new name of Twitter

Elon Musk had expressed his intention to make “X” something very similar to what it is WeChatfrom Tencent, in China.

In other words, a super app is used for everything from payments and ticket reservations for live shows, to instant messaging.

However, he never gave any details about how “X” would fit into his many companies, from electric vehicle giant Tesla to space exploration company SpaceX.

Musk also owns the domain “X.com”, the name of the online payment company that shortly after its gestation merged with PayPal, also co-founded by the businessman of South African origin.

Twitter did not respond to media inquiries because the company no longer has a team to address these issues.

Lawyers representing Twitter in the California case also had no comment.

After it was published, Musk’s tweet went viral in a few hours, generating more than 90,000 likes and 12,000 RTs, as well as 20,000 responses and 15 million views.

The post sparked a lot of speculation as to what it meant.

In some countries, “Twitter Gone” started trending.
