New York, USA.- Elon Musk, CEO of Twitter Inc, reported yesterday that the social network will allow the media to charge users per article with a single click starting in May.

“This allows users who don’t sign up for a monthly subscription to pay a higher price per article when they want to read the occasional article,” the mogul said on Twitter.

“It should be a big win for both the media organizations and the public.”

Musk did not disclose details about the price or what cut Twitter would get.

The announcement came as the Tesla owner has been working to make the platform profitable through product and organizational changes, which have sparked a wave of criticism among some quarters.

Media outlets have also struggled for years to come up with subscription plans that would allow them to cover their operating costs, especially when readers have become accustomed to getting free news online.
