The social media platform Twitter Inc will delete accounts that have been inactive for several years, its CEO announced, Elon Muskin a tweet on Monday.
Musk added that users of the microblogging platform could see their number of followers reduced.
According to Twitter policy, users must log in to their account at least once every 30 days to avoid permanent deletion due to prolonged inactivity.
Earlier this month, Musk “threatened” to reassign the Twitter account of National Public Radio to another company, after the public broadcaster stopped publishing content on its 52 official Twitter channels in protest of a Twitter hashtag suggesting government involvement in its editorial content.
Last month, Twitter removed the blue checkmark from the profiles of thousands of people, including celebrities, journalists and prominent politicians.
Musk has made account verification part of Twitter’s blue subscription, a move he said would address the problem of bot accounts on the social media platform.
