Two 18-year-old Chantada players die in a traffic accident with a wild boar

Two 18-year-old soccer players from the Chantada youth team died this Tuesday in a traffic accident caused by a wild boar. Tourism has overturned when it was circulating at kilometer 53 of the N-540 highway, which connects Lugo and Ourense, with three people inside, members of the SD Chantada youth team.

The deceased Abel Carreira and Lex Gómez were on the right side of the vehicle, one as a co-pilot and another in the rear, while the driver was unharmed.

The young people were wearing their seat belts and the accident was caused by a wild boar that crossed the road, causing them to lose control of the vehicle and run off the road, hitting the guardrail. The driver suffered an anxiety attack after the accident and has needed psychological help.

The Lugo club published a tweet this morning announcing that it was “temporarily suspending all activity” due to the death of its two youth team footballers.

Two days of official mourning

The mayor of Chantada, Manuel Lorenzo, has advanced that the plenary session of the City Council will decree two days of official mourning for the death of these two young people who were well known in this Lugo town.

Numerous Galician clubs have expressed their sorrow on social networks for the death of Abel and lex, even the Spanish Football Federation has issued a tweet lamenting their deaths.
