Two Argentine women died this afternoon in a brutal car accident in Punta del Este in the Manantiales area. Seven other people were involved in the crash and suffered injuries of varying degrees.

The fatal accident occurred at kilometer 101 of Route 104, at the height of the Atchugarry Museum of Contemporary Art. It was a head-on collision between two cars. Four Argentines traveled in one and five Uruguayans in the other.

The first to arrive at the scene to assist the victims were the firefighters from San Carlos and de la Barra, and they helped the passengers who had been trapped inside the cars. Unfortunately, when assistance arrived, the two Argentine women were already found dead.

From the same car that the two fatalities were in, the firefighters managed to rescue Melanie Labaururu, 27, who was transferred to the Cantegrill Sanatorium, and Nicolás Rocas, with polytrauma and blunt abdominal trauma, who was referred to the same sanatorium.

As for the other vehicle, the five Uruguayans who were inside were able to get out on their own and all had minor injuries. The identified passengers, according to the official report, were Juan Pablo Sentero, Nazarena Sierra, Melina Antun and Luciano Strassera.
