Two people are seriously injured after fire in apartments in Silver Spring

Two people were seriously injured after a fire broke out at a housing complex Sunday morning in Silver Spring, Maryland, authorities said.

Officials rushed to The Enclave on Oak Leaf Drive near Columbia Pike around 6:30 a.m., the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Department said. Despite the fact that the flames were inside an apartment on the nineteenth floor, there was smoke throughout the building.

Crews rescued two victims and took them to a hospital.

One resident said the building’s fire alarms woke her up, but there was no smoke downstairs.

Three hours earlier, fire crews put out a fire at the Rumba y Carbón restaurant on Grand View Avenue in Wheaton.

As a result, one person was injured. No additional details about his condition were released.

The fire started in the restaurant’s basement and caused moderate damage, according to Montgomery County fire officials.

The cause of both fires remains under investigation.
