UGT has requested that the reinforcement of the Post Office staff for the next general elections on July 23 be done immediately. The union in the region shows its concern for theto work overload that the around 2,500 workers can face of the public postal company, especially considering that currently the delivery units and post offices in Castila-La Mancha are already overwhelmed, with a lack of troops of around 35%.

From UGT Servicios Públicos CLM it is clear that the demand for voting by mail in these elections is multiplying by four compared to the past municipal and regional elections. «For example, in the Toledo Post Office they are receiving about 300 more requests a day.”

He added that each vote by mail supposes three urgent certificates, an amount to be pocketed that must be invested in hiring personnel to be able to guarantee the service.

Yesterday, Monday, unions and the Post Office held a meeting in Madrid in which -in unity of action- UGT and Comisiones Obreras submitted to the company a series of proposals that, they understand, are essential to face these weeks of campaigning.

They propose, as a first measure, a number of reinforcement contracts that reach 12,000, an amount that should be even higher as the Central Electoral Board has agreed the DNI request when delivering the vote at the post offices. “These contracts must be carried out immediately,” they point out.

UGT also demands that the holidays of those workers who already have them scheduled and accepted be respected and an increase in bonuses per campaign.

Regarding the organization of work, it proposes extraordinary distributions and overtime in all areas (at least three extraordinary distributions) as well as guaranteeing the necessary preventive measures against the risk of extreme heat throughout the electoral campaign.

The state public company has committed to the UGT and CCOO to study these measures and to send a document of the proposals that have been accepted.
