Singer Fernando Zor used social media to warn his fans. On Wednesday (5/4), he said he had suffered an intense anxiety attack while traveling to Canada after mixing alcohol and Zolpidem, an active ingredient in a medicine intended to treat insomnia.
“Chaotic combination. I had a terrible anxiety attack that prevented me from going on my trip. I just couldn’t go forwards or backwards and it hurt me a lot physically,” said Zor.
The singer was brought back to Brazil by his family, where he spent six days at the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, in São Paulo, to undergo a detox with the aim of removing the substance from the body and “getting rid of the chemical dependency on the medicine”. , with psychiatric follow-up, as he reported.
Zolpidem is a controlled drug, marketed under medical prescription under the names of Prompt, Patz, Zolpaz, Zolfest and Stilnox for the treatment of insomnia. It should only be used for a short period of time so that the patient does not become dependent, explains psychiatrist Alisson Marques, from the Meraki Institute, in Brasília.
The sertanejo singer developed dependence on the sleeping pill, using it even during the day to control anxiety.
The use of the drug is associated by some patients with episodes of hallucinations, compulsive shopping, sleepwalking and attacks on the fridge during the night without the person remembering it later.
Consumption of alcoholic beverages or other drugs, such as anxiolytics, antidepressants and medication for pain and insomnia, combined with Zolpidem further potentiates the effects of the drug, which may result in greater sedation and mental confusion, leading to loss of memory of the event, accidents and violent behavior.

Zor confirmed that he had an intense crying crisis, to the point of not being able to board the next flight, between the United States and Canada. “During this flight, I drank alcohol, and I’ve been taking sleeping pills for a while. I ended up having a really bad anxiety attack, and I couldn’t get on the flight,” he said.
“I’m here to give advice to people who use this medication. I know it’s sometimes prescribed, but it becomes an addiction. Be very attentive because it really is a problem, and mixed with alcohol, it becomes a very big problem”, he concluded.
