Ukraine again demands long-range ATACMS missiles from the US in a contact with Blinken

MADRID, 7 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dimitro Kuleba, has requested this Monday from his US counterpart, Antony Blinken, the shipment of ATACMS long-range missiles, a type of weapon that Kiev claims to strengthen its attack capabilities and gain ground in the areas that remain currently controlled by Russia.

The US president, Joe Biden, who is responsible for the final approval for this hypothetical shipment, has already publicly admitted that he is considering giving in to Ukrainian pressure with the ATACMS, a projectile model that has a greater range than the ‘Storm Shadows’ than the UK Government authorized last May.

Kuleba has explained on social networks that he has spoken with Blinken about “future steps to broaden global support for the (Ukrainian) peace formula and solutions to expand grain exports”, although he has also slipped that weapons have returned to appear in the conversation. “I have thanked the United States for all the assistance provided and stressed the need to bolster Ukraine’s long-range capabilities with the delivery of ATACMS,” she added.

For its part, the US State Department has limited itself to pointing out in a statement that the two ministers have discussed the evolution of the Ukrainian military counteroffensive, without going into details. Blinken has stressed that Washington will continue to help kyiv to repel Russian “aggression” and “has reaffirmed support for a strong Ukrainian Army,” reads the official note.

“We are committed to continue on Ukraine’s side in its defense against Russian aggression,” added the Secretary of State himself on the X social network, formerly known as Twitter.
