Ukraine investigates 112 proceedings against recruiting center officials

“In total, since the beginning of Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine, the SBI has investigated 112 proceedings against officials of regional recruitment and social support centers. Based on the results of this work, 15 indictments have already been sent to the courts,” the OSE said in a statement on Tuesday.

“The reasons for the ‘popular’ crimes of the officers of the military enlistment offices are their own profit, for which they neglect both their conscience and their responsibility for the fate of the country,” SBI said. “The SBI is intensifying its efforts to combat crimes at military enlistment offices and warns that any plots will be exposed and their perpetrators brought to justice,” he added.

Inspections of the “activities and lifestyle” of employees of regional recruitment and social support centers are ongoing, SBI said.

“All infractions will be rigorously and inflexibly evaluated in accordance with the Penal Code,” he added.

The SBI has listed a number of cases of abuse at military enlistment offices, including a military commissioner accused of organizing an “enrichment scheme” and an official accused of “facilitating illegal border crossings,” among others.

This week’s statement came as Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Friday that all officials in charge of all regional military recruitment centers have been sacked amid widespread corruption.
