Russia claims to have thwarted a Ukrainian drone strike in the Moscow region

The Russian Defense Ministry said Monday that it had managed to thwart a Ukrainian drone attack in the Moscow region, with no casualties reported. The incident has forced the suspension of landings and takeoffs at the Vnukovo airport in Moscow, according to the Russian agency TASS.

Around 6:50 a.m. on Monday Moscow time (one hour less in mainland Spain), an attempt by Kiev to carry out an “attack with an aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicle” was thwarted, the ministry said in a statement.

He specified that the drone was “eliminated by electronic means” and crashed in the Odintsovo district, southeast of the capital.

In recent weeks, two drone strikes have been repelled in Moscow’s financial district, causing minor damage to skyscraper facades. Recently, the Russian government has reported the downing of dozens of drones on its territory, for the launch of which it blames Ukraine, despite the fact that the Ukrainian government does not usually claim responsibility. In May, drones were shot down near the Kremlin, the presidential palace in Moscow. (AFP)
