Heavy fighting is reported from the Darfur region in western Sudan. The Lawyers’ Association reported that RSF militia paramilitary fighters were “firing rockets at houses” in the regional capital, Geneina. According to the UN, weapons are now being distributed to civilians in Darfur.

increased violence

The violence increased after the foreigners left, the doctors’ association reported. There was a “massacre” with “dozens dead and injured”. The UN also warned that around 50,000 children in Darfur are suffering from malnutrition.

The UN stopped its relief efforts after the death of five helpers at the beginning of the fighting. From the Darfur region, where around 300,000 people were killed in a civil war that began in 2003, hardly any information has leaked out.

ceasefire extended

A 72-hour ceasefire brokered by the United States came into force on Tuesday, which was extended by another 72 hours shortly before it expired. However, all ceasefires have so far been regularly broken.

In Sudan, army units under the command of General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan have been fighting the RSF militia led by Mohammed Hamdan Daglo for almost two weeks. More than 500 people have been killed since then.
