UN rejects Nicaragua's request to order Germany to suspend aid to Israel

HAGUE.- The highest court of the United Nations rejected the request for Nicaragua to order the cessation of German military aid to Israel in the midst of the devastating Gaza conflict.

Nicaragua, a long-time ally of the Hamas terrorist group, alleges that Germany is enabling genocide by sending weapons and other support to Israel. Tuesday’s ruling by the International Court of Justice concerns only preliminary orders in a case that will likely take years to resolve. Germany rejects the accusations.

Israel, which is not a party to the case between Nicaragua and Germany, denies that its attack on Gaza constitutes acts of genocide and insists that it is acting in self-defense.

Israel and Hamas could agree to a truce

Hamas promised to study a counterproposal from Israel that calls for establishing a truce in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages captured by the Palestinian Islamist movement since the start of the war more than six months ago.

A senior official of the terrorist group, Khalil al-Hayya, said that the Israeli proposal is being evaluated and that “once the study is concluded, we will present a response.”

The announcement coincided with the presence in Israel of an Egyptian delegation seeking to reactivate truce negotiations.

Although he did not offer details of the Israeli offer, he said it was in response to the proposal made by Hamas two weeks ago. At the beginning of the month, negotiations focused on a proposed six-week ceasefire and the release of 40 civilian and sick hostages in exchange for hundreds of Palestinians imprisoned in Israeli prisons.

The Hamas statement came hours after a high-level delegation from Egypt concluded a visit to Israel in which they discussed a “new vision” for a truce in Gaza, according to an Egyptian official who spoke on condition of anonymity. .
