Mexico City.- The National Autonomous University of Mexico recognized that it lacks mechanisms to invalidate a title, this after it was confirmed that the title work of Minister Yasmín Esquivel is a substantial copy of another project published in 1986.

Today, the Academic and Scientific Integrity Committee of the Faculty of Higher Studies of Aragón (FES Aragón) determined that the thesis presented by Minister Esquivel to qualify as a Law graduate, is a “substantial copy” of the one presented a year earlier.

The Committee reported that it reached the conclusion that the original thesis was the one presented in 1986, after assessing the elements of construction, development, style, content, temporality, congruence, and information management of both theses.

In this sense, the Maximum House of Studies affirmed that the content of the analysis made by the Committee of the FES Aragón will be sent to the Ministry of Public Education “for the purposes that may arise.”

Rector Enrique Graue Wiechers reported that there is an administrative investigation procedure against Professor Martha Rodríguez Ortíz, who advised Minister Esquivel’s titling work.

“Our house of studies considers that it will always be better to prevent cases as unfortunate and painful as these, for which reason, in agreement with the College of Directors of Faculties and Schools, the first measures have already been taken in this regard, as well as the study of the alternatives that allow us to strengthen our regulations to prevent issues like the one at hand”, added the Chancellor.
