“We finally need gigabit on the train. Streaming, surfing and video conferencing must be possible without restrictions on the train. The parliamentary group has also submitted a corresponding motion to the Bundestag, which is to be discussed tomorrow.
Although there were announcements from Wissing in this regard, his ministry had not yet initiated a single measure, criticized CDU MP Ronja Kemmer. It’s not even necessarily about building more mobile phone masts on the railway lines, where you’re basically dependent on the network operators.
Rebuild discs
There are also measures that Deutsche Bahn can implement itself if the federal government, as the majority owner, wants to. CDU MP Ronja Kemmer, for example, is talking about finally converting the windows in the trains so that they let cell phone waves through. Currently, these are still coated with metal-containing foils in order to have less greenhouse effect in the trains when the sun is shining – and that blocks the reception. So far, however, there is not even a schedule for the disc conversion that is actually already planned.
Even if the efforts for better mobile communications in the trains are certainly justified, one does not hear any self-critical tones from the Union. Because various topics in this context were already on the agenda when you were still in government. Even then, little happened.
