United Nations highlights that solidarity is key to eradicating poverty

MIAMI.- The International Day of Solidarity Humana is celebrated this December 20. The objective of this date is to promote solidarity as a fundamental universal value for cooperation and the well-being of peoples.

United Nations expresses that this anniversary represents a day to celebrate unity in diversity; remind governments that they must respect their commitments to international agreements, and raise public awareness about the importance of solidarity.

In addition, the date is an opportunity to stimulate debate on ways to encourage solidarity in pursuit of the Sustainable Development objectives, such as the goal of eradicating poverty.

The RAE defines solidarity as “the circumstantial adherence to the cause or company of others.” This characteristic translates into aspects such as participation, support, camaraderie; camaraderie, brotherhood and support.

By decision of the United Nations, the International Day of Human Solidarity has been celebrated since 2005. The UN emphasizes that solidarity has defined its actions since its creation: It attracted the people of the world to promote peace, human rights and economic and social development.

Solidarity and cooperation

The UN stresses also that the solidarity promotes cooperation in the solution of international problems of an economic, social, cultural or humanitarian nature.

“In the context of the globalization and the challenge of growing inequality, the strengthening of international solidarity is essential,” points out the United Nations.

The organization highlights that among the initiatives being promoted is that of the World Solidarity Fund.
