At Richnek Elementary School in the state of Virginia, a six-year-old student opened fire last Friday at his teacher, who is still in intensive care with life-threatening injuries. The minor was taken into police custody and the authorities assured that it was not an accident.

Despite the fact that the latest medical reports indicate favorable progress in the teacher’s state of health, the injuries are still “life-threatening,” according to authorities. Likewise, the local police chief, Steve Drew, revealed that “the individual is a six-year-old student, he is currently in police custody,” and acknowledged that “it was not an accidental shooting.”

In the establishment where the incident occurred, students go through a metal detector and are randomly searched. So the minor managed to go unnoticed and brought a firearm into the school, so now the investigations aim to clarify the way in which the young man accessed the revolver.

Violence in the United States, together with the ease of obtaining weapons, make up a problem that, far from decreasing, worries citizens more and more. In 2022, 1,631 minors died from gun violence, while 4,400 suffered injuries.
