The current US president, however, added that he was not “yet ready” to announce a candidacy.

US President Joe Biden repeated on Monday his intention to be a candidate for re-election in 2024… while indicating that any announcement would be premature. The 80-year-old Democrat’s candidacy indices are multiplying and the main unknown now seems to be the date of his official entry into the campaign.

“I intend to be a candidate, but we are not ready to announce it yet”, the president told NBCon the sidelines of the traditional egg hunt organized at the White House for Easter.

Still “here for at least three or four more egg hunts”

“I plan to be there for at least three or four more egg hunts,” he said. “Maybe five, six – what do I know”.

If re-elected, the leader – already the oldest sitting US president – would be 86 at the end of a second term.

No notable Democrat has come forward to challenge him to a primary, foreshadowing a possible remake of the 2020 presidential election. On the Republican side, former President Donald Trump is currently riding at the top of the polls, despite his recent indictment.
