According to the responsible authority, dangerous situations have occurred six times on the runways of American airports since the beginning of the year. The series of near misses raises questions about US aviation safety and prompts the NTSB to investigate the problem.

After initial investigations into recent runway incursion, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is now rounding up experts from the airline industry, unions and the government. They are to discuss the problem at a conference on May 23.

An incident at New York’s JFK airport caused a sensation, in which two planes almost collided. A Delta Airlines machine had to make an emergency stop because an American Airlines Boeing 777 had accidentally crossed a runway. Incidents were also reported from airports in Texas, Florida and Massachusetts where collisions were only just avoided.
