More than 650,000 people in Berlin and Brandenburg now use the so-called Deutschlandticket. That’s what Joachim Radünz, spokesman for the Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg (VBB) said on Wednesday on rbb24 Inforadio. There are also many new subscribers:

“We have gained 100,000 new subscribers in Berlin and Brandenburg with this 49-euro ticket for local public transport.”

He is proud of that, says Radünz. Over the coming long weekend, the VBB is expecting many travelers towards the Baltic Sea:

“Berlin’s bathtub is apparently on the Baltic Sea. In this respect, we have prepared ourselves: We always use special trains in summer and this year we really beefed up the RE again.”

The construction work, for example on the route of the Berlin Stadtbahn and the RE 1, did not pose a problem:

“It can always happen that there are some construction sites that are perhaps not yet pre-planned. However, we have everything under control so far that we say: Ok, we have already expanded the offer. (…) I’ll do it again drew attention to the fact that we had chaos last year. And everyone was screaming for infrastructure measures, we have to expand. We’re doing that now and that includes construction sites. I know that’s sometimes critical, but it has nothing to do with the trains that we use more to the Baltic Sea.”
