“RWe received with assent the invitation from the Government of the People’s Republic of China to participate in the ILRS project, thus becoming the first country invited to join this important project, which is under development, and whose construction is expected from 2030″, explains a statement issued in Caracas.

The document, released by the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), explains that the strategic association between both countries “transcends all areas of cooperation and today constitutes a recognition of the efforts made by the Bolivarian Government in favor of scientific development” in Venezuela.

“In Venezuela, we look forward to seeing the results of the recent meeting held between the Bolivarian Agency for Space Activities (ABAE) and China’s National Laboratory for Deep Space Exploration (DSEL),” he explains.

In the statement, Caracas “reiterates the sincere fraternity, friendship and solidarity” that unites both governments, “with the commitment to continue to deepen the strategic association that has brought so many benefits” to both countries.

According to the Venezuelan press, the project to develop a lunar base, the ILRS, is a joint project between China and Russia.

On March 30, Marglad Bencomo, director of the Bolivarian Agency for Space Activities, visited the National Laboratory for Deep Space Exploration (DSEL) in China, where he met with the vice-president of that organization, Wu Yanhu.
