Victim died after the bullet went through the wall; suspect arrested in Oklahoma

FRESNO, California – Victor Becerra, a 51-year-old Fresno resident, was killed on the afternoon of January 2 by a bullet that passed through the wall of his home. 5 months after the tragedy, authorities arrested Kevin King as allegedly responsible for his death.

At 4:40 pm that day, officers responded to a Blythe Avenue residence to investigate a person shot in his own apartment.

“And suddenly we heard an explosion,” the deceased’s wife, Leticia Becerra, told Telemundo Fresno.

According to the family, the victim had his granddaughter between his legs when he was hit by the “stray bullet”, which came from the other side of the wall.

On January 2, Víctor Becerra was at his residence when a fatal shot went through the wall. Another occupant of the adjoining apartment reportedly pulled the trigger negligently, local police say.

“I know you’re not going to be with me,” Leticia told Víctor as she bled to death before the ambulance arrived. “You have left me a great legacy that is your children and the girl, your granddaughter,” said the wife of the deceased last January.

Becerra was taken to the Regional Community Medical Center where he died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

For their part, the Fresno police confirmed that a neighbor identified as Kevin King would have negligently fired his firearm, hitting the victim who was in an adjoining room.

Immediately after the shooting, King fled the Fresno area and a warrant was issued for his arrest on multiple charges, including manslaughter and child endangerment.

On Thursday, June 22, the suspect was arrested by Garvin County Sheriff’s officers in Oklahoma and is awaiting extradition to Fresno County.
