President Klaus Iohannis says that during the teleconference with the US President, Joe Biden, and the EU and NATO leaders, the drones that recently fell in Romania following the Russian attacks were discussed and he received “very concrete” answers: “Together with NATO, we are practically clearly how we will bring additional anti-drone defense to that area”.

Iohannis made these statements on Thursday, in Spain, in Granada, where the informal meeting of the European Council is taking place.

On Tuesday, American President Joe Biden spoke by phone with several important allies of the United States, as the future of American funding for Ukraine remains uncertain, and Klaus Iohannis also took part in the discussions.

Asked on Thursday if he requested additional military aid, in the context of the Russian attacks on the Ukrainian ports on the Danube, on the Romanian border, the head of state answered: “We discussed the issues related to the drones that fell in Romania, as a result of the Russian attacks on the ports of to the Danube and I received not only encouragement, I received very concrete answers”.

  • “Hello, the United States has allocated additional aircraft for air policing.
  • Together with NATO, we are basically clear on how we will bring additional anti-drone defense to that area. It is being worked on.
  • So things are moving and we, so the army, have moved more defense weapons to the area and we hope that absolutely no unwanted incidents occur.
  • Anyway, these attacks on Ukrainian ports are war crimes, because there are only civilian infrastructures there. There is absolutely nothing military that can be attacked”, declared Klaus Iohannis.

We remind you that at least three drones launched by the Russians in the war started in Ukraine fell in Romania, in Plauru and Nufăru, in Tulcea county.

The National Committee for Emergency Situations (CNSU) decided, on September 7, to adopt protective measures for the population in areas on the territory of Romania adjacent to the Ukrainian towns of Reni and Ismail, as well as the issuance of RO-Alert messages by the ISU, upon notification MApN, regarding the risk of some “elements belonging to the means of combat used in the conflict” falling.
