Juarez City.- “Ulises was my friend since high school, it’s very difficult to see him one day and not the next day,” said Andrés, a fourth-semester student at Cbtis 128, who was a classmate of Ulises R. shot to death last Tuesday at the outskirts of the campus.

A group of students from that institution demonstrated next to the perimeter fence of the school, in the place where Ulises was attacked, who lost his life in a hospital while a sixth-semester student was also hit by bullets and injured.

The protesters assured that since last August they had reported the unsafe conditions in which they study but no authority did anything about it.

They pointed out that, despite the fact that there are three schools on that same block: two high schools and the Técnica 55 secondary school, prior to the attack there was never any police or road safety surveillance.

“Now there is a patrol here, but what for?” added Andrés.

Paola, another of the protesters, also in the fourth semester, said that she saw Ulises when he was injured and that the school infirmary did not have a first-aid kit to treat him.

“You don’t know the trauma it was to see him like this,” he said through tears.

Alan, another student, pointed out that in addition to the sale and consumption of drugs inside the school, they have complained many times about the unsanitary bathrooms and cafeteria and the bad facilities, which adds to the insecurity outside.

One of the banners they carried read “Two bullets prevented my friend from finishing the semester”.

The students also lit candles at the place where Ulises and Camila were injured.

The protest took place shortly after 1:00 in the afternoon, at the time of departure for the morning shift.
