When artists create a historical fiction manga, such as Vinland Saga, they generally visit museums, national libraries and the country of origin.

In an interview withAnime Trendingin addition to revealing that he had to change the beginning of the story to get approval from the publisher, the author described his research process.

“So, actually, I did visit places that became settings in my story, like Denmark, Iceland, Norway, France and England. When I was traveling, I tried to use my senses like, “Is it a warm place?” a cold place? How does the wind blow? How cold is the water?” So, the feelings and sensations I experienced in these places would give me details to write stories about them.

However, the only place I had never visited was Canada. When I really wanted to get to know Canada it was close to when the covid-19 outbreak happened. All my plans had to be rescheduled. However, my story couldn’t wait until I came here to do the research. For the last three years, when I was writing the story about Vinland, I wasn’t confident about what this place would be like.”disse Yukimura.

Regarding consulting historical material, he replied: “Maybe, I read the Saga of Erik the Red and the Saga of the Greenlanders. But a lot of text and takes a while to read. As there weren’t many resources, I started looking for other materials where I could also find them.”

On the journey in search of Vinland, Thorfinn he found the Mikmaq tribe in the place that is now known as Prince Edward’s Island. During his stay in Canada, the mangak took the opportunity to get to know the province. Check it out below:
