During the quarter-final second leg of the african champions league opposing theHope of Tunis to the JSKclashes erupted between law enforcement and Taraji supporters.

Acts of violence and vandalism were observed at the level of the enclosure of ES Tunis, Rades stadium. Uprooting of seats/grids, throwing of projectiles at the police as well as an individual with a ” chain saw were seen from the stands.

A fire next to the south curve of the stadium required the intervention of the protection units to extinguish the flames. These facts led to delay of the start of the second half of the match.

What happened in Tunis yesterday raises the following questions: how a supporter can be able to fit such an object in a stadium, in African competition ? Are fans thoroughly searched by stadium security before matches begin?

Finally, this kind of event tarnishes the image of African football and reminds us of the need to strengthen security measures to avoid such excesses.

Supporters arrested

According to Tunisian radio Mosaic FM “, the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Court of First Instance of Ben Arous authorized the judicial police to detain 66 young men in two different locations.

Among the inmates, 48 are accused of throwing stonescaused riots and set fire inside the stadium, while 12 minors are suspected of holding fraudulent entry cardspossession of a knife without a license and possession of narcotics.
