The Review Chamber gave rise today to the completion of the house arrest of Sonia Prystupczuk, the main person responsible for the sexual abuse that occurred in the children’s homes of Gobernador Virasoro. She will await her trial in freedom.
After the confirmation of various prosecutions and with the evidence obtained, they changed the coercive measure of pretrial detention. Now the defendant must comply with perimeters and presentation in court on a weekly basis.
The Review Chamber confirmed the measure ceded by Judge Erika Benitez, who led to the end of house arrest for the main person responsible for what happened in the Hogares de Virasoro, among which is the death of the minor Claudio Flores, in February 2022.
The plaintiff attorney for the Flores family, Eduardo Etchegaray Centeno, explained to The territory that “technically what they did was replace the coercion measure, which is house arrest, with a less burdensome coercion measure. Due to this measure, Sonia must sign every fortnight with the Police, she will not be able to leave Virasoro, she will not be able to go near the children’s homes, she will not be able to go near the children, nor the officials of the homes, nor will she be able to leave the country.
He pointed out that the basis for the change confirmed this afternoon is that “he has been under house arrest for a year now without a sentence and that the cases presented have already been submitted to all the evidence, and that an oral trial is close, so there would be no possibility of hindering the test because everything is already done. That is to say, he cannot spend so much time in pretrial detention without a sentence ”.
And he added: “My position is that we should not look so much at the rights of criminals, but also think about life and the protection of children.”
Regarding the steps to follow, Etchegaray said that there is no room for appeals, “we and the Prosecutor have already challenged, according to what is stated in the new Code, and the Review Chamber confirmed the substitution of coercion measure, they eased the extent. Now we have to hope that it goes to trial quickly, that there is a conviction, and there he will serve not a preventive detention, but an effective prison, ”explained the complainant.
However, the residents of Virasoro repudiate the situation and are summoned to attend the social condemnation for the former director of the homes until the oral trial, and try to prevent Prystupczuk from entering various places in the town.
