Shortly after the anniversary of the beginning of the war between Russia and Ukraine, Vladimir Putin met with Wang Yi, one of the top Chinese diplomats in Xi Jinping’s government and director of the Foreign Affairs Office. This situation comes after the Asian giant was more open to the idea of supporting Moscow in the war effort.
Since the beginning of the war, China has always maintained a neutral position without directly supporting the Kremlin, but with subtle criticism of the West. Now, it seems that Beijing is willing to help Russia and even a visit by Xi Jinping to the capital of the Eurasian country in the near future is agreed.
In recent months, international tensions over the war that concerns Eastern Europe have begun to grow exponentially, especially the relationship between Russia with the West, which experts define as the lowest since the end of the Cold War. Under the same precept, Putin spoke and described that “the cooperation between the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China in the global arena is particularly important to stabilize the international situation.”
Little is known about the president’s visit, since the plan is at a very early stage, so there is still time for development. However, the dates that could be handled are for the end of April or the beginning of May, when putin’s government celebrates the victory of the Soviet Union over Nazi Germany.
Biden in Poland
This meeting between two powers, such as Russia and China, came a few hours after the trip made by the US president to Poland, one of his strongest allies, in which he took the opportunity to visit Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, and meet with Volodymyr Zelensky.
After his return, he held a speech in Warsaw where he talked about the war and indicated that “NATO support in Ukraine will not fail, we will not divide or get tired”.
