After the storm comes the calm. The Mexican athletes of aquatic disciplines spent several weeks between doubts and stress. The conflict between Conade, the Mexican Swimming Federation (FMN) and World Aquatics left them practically abandoned with the illusion of going to Paris 2024.

It turns out and highlights that the lawsuit is due to the presence of Kiril Todorov in the FMN. The president of the organization was unknown by World Aquatics for linking him to the process for the crime of embezzlement.

However, Conade did not like that one bit, much less the presence of a Stabilizing Committee. So without further conflict, Ana Guevara withdrew support under the argument that she was complying with the law in Mexico… Worse, she said that the athletes could stay without the Olympic Games without much concern.

After Ana Guevara’s statements and without her support, Mexican athletes fell into uncertainty. An Olympic process and a lifetime dedicated to the sport was put at risk, so a group of divers sent a letter to World Aquatics to seek their support.

The public response did not come immediately, but it does represent peace of mind for all athletes. Husain Al-Musallam, president of World Aquatics, appeared in a video to publicize the body’s position on the subject and assured that athletes are a priority.
