Juarez City.- A document was allegedly released this afternoon by a lawyer for the Guzmán family, in which the children of El Chapo assure that they are “victims of persecution” and distance themselves from the Sinaloa Cartel, in addition to seeking to clear the name of their father, Joaquín Guzmán Loera, since they assure that his world fame is harming them.

“We are not the head of the Sinaloa Cartel nor are we interested in being one,” begins the letter, which was sent to a media outlet after the DEA conference announced charges against the Guzmán family for importing and selling fentanyl.

“We had not felt the need nor did we believe it prudent to tell our version,” the document reads.

“We have never worked with fentanyl, however in Sinaloa there are many who work with it, that is why there are seizures, which have first and last names, investigate.”

In the letter they also assure that if the DEA sends a single agent to Sinaloa, they will know what really happens.

The children of El Chapo also distanced themselves from different criminal acts, such as killing people with their bare hands, or feeding people to tigers; “we do not have nor did we have tigers”.

On the other hand, in the document they mention that they have never had an interest in “dominating Chihuahua, Coahuila, Michoacán or other states and whoever has said that to any authority is lying.”

The intention of the letter is to clear Guzmán’s name, to ensure his integrity and that of his family.

“We are victims of persecution and they made us a scapegoat. We hope this letter reaches the right people. We remain at your service,” the letter closes.
