The President of the Republic, who spoke on the occasion of the wishes addressed to the French people for the year 2023, also addressed the Ukrainian people.

French President Emmanuel Macron promised in his New Year’s greetings on Saturday to continue to help Ukraine “without fail”, “until victory”.

“We will be together to build a just and lasting peace. Count on France and count on Europe,” he said in his televised address.

“Live 2023 in a united and united country”

Evoking an “imperative of national unity”, the Head of State wished in this 19-minute televised speech, in front of the library of his personal office at the Elysée, “to live 2023 as much as possible in a united country and solidarity”.

“If we gave in to the spirit of division that presses us from all sides, we would have almost no chance of getting by in such a harsh world, in such hard times,” he warned.

Listing the country’s successes, the president invited the French, whom he often portrays as too pessimistic, to be “proud”. “We need to have this pride and this confidence” to face the challenges of the coming year, he pleaded.
