Returnal is widely regarded as a standout and even won the Game of the Year 2022 award at last year’s BAFTA event. However, it seems that this critical success has not translated into a lot of new players when the game is now launched on PC.

SteamDBreveals that its opening weekend only reached under 7,000 concurrent players to Valve’s platform, making it the worst launch for a Sony title on Steam since Sackboy: A Big Adventure. Compared to other Sony exclusives that made the jump to PC, it’s clear that Returnal underperformed. For example, God of War managed 74,000 concurrent players at its peak and Horizon Zero Dawn reached 56,000.

Hopefully interest will grow when people notice how good it is, but a very slow start is at least a fact. You can find our review of the Playstation version here.
