Berlin/Munich.
After the annual wave of travel around Christmas and New Year, the traffic clubs expect moderate traffic next weekend. At least on the highways.

This weekend there will be moderate activity on the trunk roads in Germany. According to the forecasts of the auto clubs ADAC and ACE, between January 13th and 15th, delays can be expected at some motorway construction sites. “Longer traffic jams are not to be expected,” said the ACE.

However, drivers should expect heavy traffic on the well-known commuter routes from the early afternoon on Friday. The ADAC reports that rush-hour traffic is heavier than in the past two weeks and advises allowing for a generous time cushion during rush hours – even on the motorways near the city. According to ACE, relaxation only sets in towards the evening.

According to the ADAC, a temporary increase in traffic is to be expected on the following routes due to construction sites:

A45

Hagen – Giessen between Lüdenscheid-Nord and Sauerland service area

A45

Gießen – Hagen between Lüdenscheid and Lüdenscheid-Nord

A66

Wiesbaden – Frankfurt in both directions between Wiesbaden-Biebrich and Wiesbaden-Mainzer Straße

Even in neighboring countries, travelers hardly have to expect any delays on the roads. Therefore, long traffic jams on the access routes to the winter sports resorts remained the exception, according to the ADAC. The Auto Club expects the heaviest traffic in the mornings and late afternoons of Saturday and Sunday.

Typical winter traffic jams include the Tauern, Inntal and Brenner autobahns and the Fernpass route in Austria, the Gotthard route in Switzerland and the Brenner route in Italy. There are hardly any waiting times at the border crossings.

Because winter road conditions in the Alpine region mean that passes are often closed at short notice, ACE advises you to register in advance on the Alpine Roads Overview inform the car club about it. The ADAC recommends the country-specific winter tire regulations to note. (dpa)
