The German director Wim Wenders is represented at this year’s Cannes Film Festival with a film about the German artist Anselm Kiefer, who lives in France. It’s a 3D film, festival director Thierry Fremaux said in Paris today. The film is not part of the official competition but will be screened in a special series, he added.
A particularly large number of African filmmakers are represented in Cannes this year, said Fremaux. The new festival president Iris Knobloch, a Paris-based manager, called the festival “a good springboard for films from all over the world”. “The films are back in theaters,” Knobloch said. Nothing can replace the communal, cultural experience of a film in a dark theater.
