A new television series on Harry Potter, a new villain of Batman… The group Warner Bros. Discovery announced on Wednesday April 12 the launch of its new Max platform, on May 23 in the United States. For the occasion, the American giant has teased a large number of programs including one that is likely to make fans’ mouths water: a spin-off of “Game of Thrones” entitled “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight”.
This new adaptation of the “Game of Thrones” universe based on the “Dunk and Egg” books by George RR Martin, will center on Ser Duncan the Tall and a young Aegon V Targaryen (Egg) who has become his squire. At this time, where the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and where the memory of the last dragon has not yet disappeared from memory, the two heroes will have to face powerful enemies putting their friendship to the test. Their adventures will take place about a hundred years before the events of the original series and therefore a hundred years after the massively viewed « House of the Dragon »the first prequel released in the summer of 2022 and whose Filming for the second season has just started.

“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight” will further feed an already fertile saga for George RR Martin who will be the screenwriter and executive producer of this new Max program. Arriving in the summer of 2022, the first spin-off “House of the Dragon” revived the enthusiasm that the original work had aroused. The first episode had 9.99 million viewers, the record for HBO since the end of “Game of Thrones”. A veritable planetary phenomenon and financial windfall, the universe fantasy built by JRR Martin is likely to be broken down into different programs over the next few years.
Under discussion at HBO, a series on the taking of Westeros by Aegon I Targaryen could see the day after Variety. Viewers would follow the conquest of six of the seven kingdoms by the one who became the first king of Westeros and the founder of the Targaryen dynasty. Another project under discussion: a series on Jon Snow. In June 2022, « The Hollywood Reporter announces the news that actress Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) confirms during an interview for the BBC. Kit Harington would also be involved in the project.

The new Max platform – which will cost from $9.99 to $19.99 per month – will allow you to find the classics that made HBO successful, like « The Sopranos » or more recently Succession ». Besides Harry Potter, Warner Discovery has big plans for its other highly lucrative intellectual properties. Among the announcements, a new opus by « True Detective » with Jodie Foster and a teaser for “The Penguin,” a new eight-episode series that will feature Colin Farrell as Batman’s nemesis. The service, which will also provide access to content from HGTV, Food Network, or Discovey Channel, is serious about competing with the giants Netflix and Disney +, two years after the announced merger between WarnerMedia and Discovery.
For now, in France, HBO and the Warner Bros. Discovery are available through a « Pass Warner » marketed for 9.99 euros per month on Amazon’s Prime Video platform.
