This Saturday, September 23, 2023, the C8 channel broadcasts the documentary at 9:10 p.m. Michel Sardou, his life his work, dedicated to what inspired his career, and to his childhood. Michel Sardou was sent by his parents to a private boarding school

In the documentary, we hear the voice of Michel Sardou say, about his parents: “They were always absent“.”They had the job they had“, he recalls. Like him, Fernand and Jackie Sardou worked for the world of the stage. If it is specified that the artist lived a joyful childhood, he was “often left to his own devices“. Very busy with their career, Michel Sardou’s parents decided to send him to Moncel, a luxurious boarding house renowned for its authority in Yvelines, in Ile-de-France. “They wanted him to succeed in life (…) to have the most brilliant studies possible.”commented Bertrand Pénisson, author of Sardou: the musical encyclopedia, having participated in the filming of the C8 documentary.

Michel Sardou’s parents were also on stage

But what was Fernand and Jackie Sardou’s job, which took up so much of their time? They ran the cabaret At Fernand’s in Montmartre. Singers and actors at the same time, Fernand was a “excellent actor“, as we hear in the documentary, and Jackie was often featured in successful comedies. The latter is described as a very funny woman, and “awesome“. Moreover, his parents inspired some of his songs. In particular “I come from the south“, given that his father was from Toulon, and “A girl with light eyes“, in homage to his mother. Michel Sardou is therefore what we call a “child of the ball”. In other words, a child who does the same job as his parents.
