The instant messaging application will now no longer cut off the video during a call if you are using another application at the same time and will even allow you to keep an eye on your interlocutor.

Your video calls will now never drop on iOS again, even if you quit WhatsApp. And for good reason, the instant messaging application is in the process of deploying its Picture-in-Picture function to all users equipped with an iPhone. Discreetly tested since mid-December in the beta version of WhatsApp on iOS, picture-in-picture mode now automatically activates during a video call if you need to exit the app.

No more video cuts if you leave the app

Until now, when you left full-screen mode or opened another application during a video call on an iPhone, the video was automatically paused on your device as well as on your contact’s. But with the deployment of version 23.3.77, the iOS version of WhatsApp is now to display your video call within a remote window when you leave the application. You can easily reply to a message without leaving your call, or search for information on your device while keeping an eye on the person you are talking to.

Taking advantage of this update, WhatsApp also said it is rolling out a new option that allows you to add captions to documents you share within the app. In addition, the company is also testing on iOS the possibility for users to integrate up to a hundred images or documents at once (compared to around thirty previously). A function which is already available in the latest update of the application on Android.

Increasingly frequent feature updates

For several months, WhatsApp has been working hard to make its application ever more attractive by deploying new features at a relatively steady pace. A few weeks ago, the application launched several new features to try to boost its status. Relatively little used by messaging users, this variation of Instagram stories now makes it possible to define a private audience, and is enriched with new interactions. The messaging application now allows the publication of voice statuses and allows, as on Instagram, to react to the statuses of your contacts using an emoji. And to make sure you never miss the latest statuses uploaded by contacts in your address book, WhatsApp has introduced status rings. Thanks to these, you can easily identify, from the conversations window, the last people who updated their WhatsApp status, their avatar being decorated with a colored border.
