Un researcher and specialist in the field of Artificial Intelligence, Pratik Desai, believes that it will be possible to ‘install’ the personalities of deceased family members in computers as of the end of the year.

“Start recording regularly the people you love most, your parents and grandparents. With enough transcription data and new video and speech synthesis models, there is a 100% chance that they could live forever after leaving the physical world.”note Desai in a Twitter post. “This could be possible by the end of the year”.

The researcher believes that, with enough data, it is possible to transfer to computers what is believed to be the ‘personality’ of deceased loved ones – which means that it will be possible to continue to interact with them even after they are dead.

Desai does not seem to be the only researcher to believe in this proposal. Artur Sychov, founder and CEO of Somnium Space, a company working on a version of the metaverse, has created a feature called Live Forever. The proposal is to create a virtual avatar from the deceased person’s data, including not only the facial features, and the way they talk, but also the way they walk.

“Literally, if I die – and I have this data collected – people or my kids can have a conversation with my avatar, which will have my movements and my voice. You will meet the person. And for the first ten minutes of talking to that person, you might not know that it’s actually an Artificial Intelligence. That is the goal”said Sychov in an interview with Deputy.
