To say that Silent Hill 2 Remake is expected is an understatement. And a new video unveiled by Bloober Team leaves you wondering about the future rendering of the game.

If we trust the latest rumors, announcements around Silent Hill 2 Remake should fall shortly. Being optimistic, we can expect something new during the next State of Play. A PlayStation event that should focus on upcoming PS5 exclusives, like Bloober Team’s horror game.

We’ll see, but in the meantime, we can already shiver on the visual aspect of this mythical survival-horror. The future graphic reference in the field of horror? It’s possible.

Silent Hill 2 Remake looks better than ever thanks to Unreal Engine 5

We saw it with the announcement teaser, Silent Hill 2 Remake should be beautiful. A real break with the studio’s previous games (The Medium, Blair Witch…). At least if the sequences shown are not pipeautées, even if it is rarely the case these days. We will therefore take the Polish studio at its word. But to be convinced of the true potential of the title, we can refer to a recent video published by Bloober Team.

It does not directly concern Silent Hill 2 Remake, but the next Layers of Fear. Two productions in development that share an identical graphics engine, Unreal Engine 5. This “Unreal Engine 5 Showcase” video focuses on different elements such as Lumena dynamic lighting solution, the ray tracing or Niagara. A next-gen system for visual effects like particles. What we also notice at 1min16 is the ability to change the decor.

Almost instantaneously, the wall of a corridor can indeed change completely. Why is this important? Because we immediately perceive the application that the developers will be able to make of it within the framework of Silent Hill 2 Remake. Such a process should make for a more impressive transition to the other world. As a reminder, the other world called “Otherworld” is an even more nightmarish version of the environments in which the players evolve.

An insurmountable high-risk bet?

If Silent Hill 2 Remake therefore has the cards in hand to be sublime, the framerate will also have to be there. This is one of the flaws of current Bloober Team productions. But with experience, the technological advances of Unreal Engine 5 and its “ease” of use, we hope that slowdowns and other fluidity hitches will be a thing of the past.

Apart from the technical challenge, the Polish studio and Konami are playing very big with the remake of Silent Hill 2. The original remains a monument of horror despite the weight of all these years. In an interview, Sam Barlow (Her Story, Telling Lies…), who worked on Silent Hill Origins and Silent Hill Shattered Memories, expressed his fears. For him, impossible that it will not be disappointing, in the sense that people will necessarily be unhappy with the result. At the microphone of PCGameshe said « Personally, I’m less optimistic about a remaster. Silent Hill 2 Remake is also the biggest poisoned giveaway in gaming. I mean, good luck to them because I don’t see how it’s possible to do that without pissing people off. ».

In addition, the small team of Bloober Team must also have the pressure because of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 Remake. Two remakes that set the bar very high and were a hit. But everything seems to be going well and obviously, Silent Hill 2 Remake should maintain its release in 2023 exclusively for PS5 console and on PC.
