The release in January 2023 of the series The Last of Us on HBO is highly anticipated. But there is a major concern in France: no one knows yet where it will be broadcast. Amazon Prime Video? OCS? Another platform? The bets are open.
OCS? Amazon? Canal+? No one officially knows the name of the platform that will broadcast the series The Last of Us in France at the time of its release. This is however fast approaching: it is Sunday January 15, 2023 that the first episode will be broadcast on HBO in the United States, and on January 16 in the United Kingdom.
As for French territory, it’s a different story. Normally, it is on OCS that we could have immediately advised to go, because the French platform has had an exclusive partnership with HBO for years. Nevertheless, this agreement ends on December 31, 2022. And to date, no official successor exists.
The Last of Us in France, the Arlesian of the SVOD
The most persistent rumor has it that The Last of Us land in the catalog from Amazon Prime Videobecause the company signed a contract last October with Warner Bros. Discover (HBO’s parent company) to be the exclusive broadcaster in France for several series, such as Pretty Little Liars: Original Sinbut also non-exclusive deals to broadcast successful series such as the Scott brothers, fringe Where Shameless.
Prime Video subscription is included in Amazon Prime subscription, for 69.90 euros per year or 6.99 euros per month. However, nothing says that The Last of Us will be there for sure: we will have to wait for official news, probably at the beginning of 2023.
Some also say that HBO Max, announced dead in France, would in fact only be postponed and could well be launched one day – but later, and perhaps under a different name.
And what about Paramount+, the new platform recently launched in France with content from the private channel Showtime (an HBO competitor in the United States), Comedy Central and MTC?
What is certain is that on January 1, 2023, HBO films and series will have disappeared from OCS, and they will not necessarily all appear at the same time on other competing platforms. Census work will have to be done: you can count on Numerama to get to work from the start of the year!
