Next week the Argentine Federation of Commerce and Services Employees (FAECyS) will speed up meetings with employers to discuss the 2023-2024 parity. There is still no concrete talk about percentages, because they are tied to the duration of the agreement. As reported iProfessionalthe intention of the Secretary General of the mercantile companies, Armando Cavalieri, is a short parity; that is, no more than six months with a review clause after the first quarter.
Meanwhile, in April the last tranche of the increase will be settled, which is 9.9 percent, leaving the average salary in about 170,000 pesos. The parity of 2022-2023 had a 101 percent annual improvement which left the organization in agreement, since it “allowed us to sustain the level of income, facing the inflationary process that hits the working class,” they said.

In addition to these categories are those of driver and driver’s assistant, additional for window assembly and special regimes. Seniority is 1% per year worked and must be applied to the new salary figures.

They accelerate the meetings to agree on the new salary increase
Cavalieri has already led some meetings with representatives of the Argentine Confederation of Medium Enterprises (CAME), the Argentine Chamber of Commerce and Services (CAC), the Union of Argentine Commercial Entities (UDECA), to reach a joint agreement that runs from March of this year to March 2024within the framework of the collective labor agreement 130/75.
Union spokesmen revealed to this medium that “the ideal would be a quarterly increase, as recently signed by the Metallurgical Workers’ Union,” they said and even encouraged a figure that could be around 20 percent, “although we will have to do a survey of inflation in March to know where we stand regarding the salary increase-inflation relationship in the last twelve months”.
From there, a parity could come out for three months or, as they estimate in the activity, that it be semi-annual with one or even two review clauses.
The same sources admitted that “in reality these are open negotiations, since the dialogue with employers is good and, somehow, they are also hit by an economy that today has serious imbalances”.

Cavalieri defended the last agreement, remarking that “we managed to ensure that the salary of the employees and commerce employees accompanied the increase in prices, and we closed the annual parity above inflation.”
It should be clarified that the increases obtained are remunerative, but the calculation bases will be the basic salaries of the agreement and the non-remunerative amount of 59.5 percent that was established in May of last year. The 22.9 percent added to the 59.5 of the first tranche totals 82.4 percent in nominal terms, but since this last agreement has a different calculation basis, the increase exceeds 100% year-on-year.
