By now League of Legends reached 162 champions last November with the launch of K’Sante, the Pride of Nazumah. Riot has already confirmed that it will not stop adding new characters, but sometimes it is useful to dive into the past: what are the first league of legends champions?

To find out, you have to go back to 2009, to be precise on February 21: the day of the debut of the isometric MOBA, nine months after the original announcement, in all there were 40 champions available to players. However, few know that in the Alpha build there were only 17. What are these? Alistar, Annie, Ashe, Fiddlesticks, Jax, Kayle, Master Yi, Morgana, Nunu, Ryze, Sion, Sivir, Soraka, Teemo, Tristana, Twisted Fate and Warwick.

The goal of reaching 20 samples was quickly exceeded, however, since in the following months they were even doubled. The first additions were Singed and Zilean, landed on Summoner’s Rift on April 18, 2009 and followed by Evelynn, Tryndamere and Twitch in May. The release of more and more characters continued until the official launch of League of Legends: Clash of Fates (yes, that was the original title of the video game) in the United States on October 27, 2009.

What are the champions added in those months? Here is the complete list in order of introduction during Alpha and Beta: Karthus, Amumu, Cho’Gath, Anivia, Rammus, Veigar, Kassadin, Gangplank, Taric, Blitzcrank, Dr. Mundo, Janna, Malphite, Corki, Katarina, Nasus, Heimerdinger and Shaco.

Let’s go back to the present now for another curiosity: did you know that Faker broke another record?
