Until now, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) has evaded the decision to remove Francisco Garduño as coordinator of the National Institute of Migration (INM) … which because they wanted to wait until they saw clearly what the aforementioned was accused of. Well, it’s even linked to the process.
Yesterday, April 30, the head of the INM was linked to the process by the director of the INM for the event in which 40 migrants died in the module of the National Institute of Migration (INM) in Ciudad Juárez.
Unlike other lower-rank officials who will face prosecution for murder and attempted murder, the head of the INM, Francisco Garduño, He will only have to free the crime of illegal exercise of public service… and the process will face him in freedom.
In accordance with The Conferencethe federal judge determined to link the still official to the process, since there were enough elements to determine that he was disregarding the responsibilities of his position: how to guarantee the safety of migrants who were detained in the Ciudad Juárez immigration facility that caught fire on March 27 and in which 40 people died.
According to the authorities investigating what happened in Ciudad Juárez, in said module they also the lack of drinking water and food was detected, as well as the absence of emergency exits and civil protection protocols.
As head of the INM, Francisco Garduño had (and still has) the responsibility of finding out about the status of immigration facilities and, in the event that they present an absence of civil protection protocols or structural failures in their facilities, proceed to suspend their activities.
However, despite knowing how the immigration stay in Ciudad Juárez worked (in theory, in one of those he was not even interested in finding out), he allowed it to continue open. Already after the fire, it was decided to close it.
As was already known, the federal judge determined that the head of the INM is under the precautionary measure. Thus, every 15 days you will have to go to the courts of Ciudad Juárez to sign. This is just for the authorities to check that he has not escaped…
And so it will be, at least, for four months, which is the time that the judge gave to carry out the respective complementary investigation. Then will come or good and, if found guilty, Francisco Garduño could spend up to seven years in prison.

Upon leaving the appearance, the official pointed out that, at least on his part, there is no intention of releasing the bone. So he will continue to head the INM until he is thanked.
“The trial is not over. I continue in the constitutional condition of keeping silent, do not make statements in relation to the process (…) I will continue working at the National Migration Institute until otherwise ordered and I will be very attentive to the efforts for the integral repair of the damages ”, he pointed out as he left the Chihuahua Federal Criminal Justice Center.
