Spotify has confirmed that there is currently a problem connecting to the music service in the Windows 11 focus sessions. Normally you can play music or podcasts in the clock app when using the Pomodoro technology, but there is currently a problem.

Microsoft announced in 2021 that the integration of Spotify in Windows 11 should be a “game changer”. Since then, the connection to Spotify has been available within the clock app via widgets. But currently the widgets simply remain empty. Spotify cannot be used, there is also no error message.

The Online Magazine Windows Latest noticed these problems himself and then went in search of clues. It has now become apparent that the integration of Spotify has probably not worked since February.
The ‘Focus Sessions’ are part of the Windows 11 Clock app

The popup linking Spotify to Windows 11 will no longer load. The result is an empty popup and a missing function or error message. Users have reported the issue on the Windows Feedback Hub, but Microsoft has not yet responded.

Bad integration known

Actually, you should be able to switch off distractions in the focus sessions, but music via Spotify is allowed separately. A Spotify support rep shared that the issue is with Microsoft: “We’ve asked around and it looks like it’s a known limitation on the Windows side due to an expired certificate, so the oATH header sent to the Spotify API is no longer valid.”

Microsoft knows the problem and is working on a solution. A support rep confirmed that a server-side update will fix the issue. But when is not known. However, it is not known whether the problem only affects individual users or is more widespread.
